Bhanu Kapil is a British-born poet, writer, and performer of Indian descent, raised in a working-class Sikh family in the UK. She spent much of her adult life in the United States, teaching writing at Naropa University’s Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics and at Goddard College, where she became known for her deeply embodied, unclassifiable approach to literature.

Kapil’s writing blends autobiography, myth, critical theory, and ritual performance. Her books rarely stay within a single genre—instead, they hover, fracture, resist. Her work engages with the legacy of colonialism, the violence of borders (both national and bodily), and the precariousness of diasporic identity.
