Marina Lewycka (1946–2025) was a British-Ukrainian novelist born in a refugee camp in Germany and raised in England. Her debut novel, A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian, appeared when she was 58, after decades of writing and rejection.

Her fiction transforms family feuds, cultural misunderstandings and everyday absurdities into comedy, while quietly exposing the wounds of displacement, war and belonging. Beneath the laughter, history is never far away.
