Unica Zürn (1916–1970) was a German writer and artist whose surreal texts and drawings explore the impossibility of separating body, psyche, and language. Closely associated with the Surrealists, she lived much of her adult life with the artist Hans Bellmer, producing a body of work haunted by eroticism, mental illness, and visionary imagery.
Her writing — part autofiction, part dream transcription — pushes language to breaking point, showing how personal trauma can become mythic riddle.
